The Great Limerick Run May Bank Holiday
I had thought of writing up the title as “Roches on the Run ” but it sounded as if we had just a completed a great Coo ” A Jailbreak from Prison” .As you are well aware The Great Limerick Run Is taking place this weekend around the city and there is up to several thousand runners taking part in the Full / Half Marathon and 10 K runs .
Both Caroline and I are running the Half Marathon so between the both of us we will hopefully cover the full 26.2 miles. If people are around on Sunday morning and around the town it would be great to see a few fimiliar faces to cheer us on!
Several weeks ago my fitness test was of great interest to everyone on the opening day of the Quarry. So hopefully i will keep my promise that my training for the run will carry us over the line. Enjoy the Diving !
Portroe Quarry Dive
I think it is fair to say” Job well Done” to the staff at Portroe Quarrys . They couldnt have had a better day yesterday with all the support and business from the diving community .Diving clubs from the Mid West and Southern Regions gathered to see the new dive centre. Crew from the Killaloe Coastguard and Killaloe/Ballina Search and Recovery Dive unit were all present to herald the opening. Rescue 115 carried out an official flyover and now has it logged as a dive centre.
Great to see such great support from the club .The Dods Brian and Mike ran a great show. Some of us had dived here in the past and for others it was a new adventure. I dived with Johny Hassett and travelled down the shaft to twenty Metres . I think it was deep enough knowing the fact you can dive all the way down to the bottom at 37m .On a hot Summers day it is still only 4 oc at the bottom so we decided we wouldn’t run the risk of a free flow in cold water
The quarry is a great spot for training or any persons going forward for tests. It is an ideal spot for lifts and free dives especially when sea conditions are not favourable . I did alot of training there in the past for the pre regs for leading diver and rescue diver
Hope everyone gets up there for a dive over the Easter or in the not too distant future!
New Years Resolution
Tis far from the Safari Beach Resort we can imagine ourselves in. But when you go reading blogs like yours Ronnie ,all you can think about is, getting back into the gear and go Diving .The fishing Clubs webcam potrays flat calm conditions and even a fishing boat is moored so it must be someway decent.
A few of us will be diving in Killaloe for the spring time, training as we always do with the search and recovery unit, but i think a true New Years Resolution would be to go for a sea dive once a month for the months of Jan/Feb/Mar. Before we know it …. Paddys Day will be here.. and roll on the season . Anyone interested in going Give us a shout and we will see what can be arranged . No doubt before this Blog is read, we will all have heard of Brians New Years Splash as he always does !!!
Hopefully the roads will be safe to travel on and the sea will stay someway decent for a paddle in the bay .
Keep in Touch if anyone is interested
PS “It might be warmer in the water than outside”
Formula One Divers to Drivers
Hi Everyone, It says exactly what it says on the Tin. I am currently looking into organising a Friday Night in September/October to go Go Karting Racing in Kilcornan . Hopefully the weather will be in our favour as well. I will come back to you shortly about dates and prices. So go and have a think about it and decide who is the better driver you or your loved one. They do say women drivers are safer so we will have to prove this one in the ladies race. Possibly your wife or girlfriend will enjoy the fact that there wont be a back seat driver in the kart with them. Looking forward to comments about the above night !!!
The Great Detour
After Brians epic tour along the west coast of Clare a brief detour to Doonbeg worked out to be a great success on Saturday afternoon .To first time divers to Doonbeg , all enjoyed a crackin dive in the Blue Pool .
However there was great debate to where the “true Bluepool ” dive was but with a bit of local knowledge we landed on the spot.
Excellent coxn work by Ciaran, he dropped us into 29 metres of water about 10 feet away from the wall . With a flooding tide at our backs we took an easterely bearing ,keeping the wall to our right we moseyed on at a constant depth of 29 mtrs for 10 mins profiling up to the 20s . It had great rock formations and was full of life …..
Dear Brian, Some say you are the Diving officer but i have to say you did a great job on Wednesday night . First class diving in top class conditions. I certainily wont be looking for your advice on ” How to park the car “. A slipway which is surely 30 feet wide and you had to get it as close to the wall as you could . I thought i taught you the tricks of the trade about navigation skills . I will run a refresher course on compass work next week in Rathbane at 14.30. The lesson for the day will be ” How to drive the ball ( in Brians case the car ) Straight . People confirmed so far—Myself,Kieran,Brian,Dave,Mike,Doc Tom,Seamus Hassett . If i have ommited anyone please contact me asap to confirm Nos 086 2705489 Richard
